American Alfred Reed was a prolific composer for wind band and produced challenging works which have become standard repertoire for bands around the world. El Camino Real, “A Latin Fantasy” was composed in 1985. It is based on the chord progression used by Spanish Flamenco guitarists whose fiery and brilliant style is well-known. The first part of the composition is influenced by the dance form known as the Jota, while the second contrasting section is derived from the Fandango. This piece is thrilling to both listen to and perform.
