about

There is a long-held belief that the traditional English tune Greensleeves was written by King Henry VIII for his lover Anne Boleyn, though this is unlikely as the melody is Elizabethan in origin and written in an Italian style of composition that was not heard in England until after his death. References to the new tune of Greensleeves are found in the late 16th century. The original composer remains unknown today, though the American composer Alfred Reed makes this melody sing with both pathos and power in his arrangement.
